Nature
Maggy is inspired by nature, its organic shapes, structures and patterns, from the smallest of corals and shells to geological processes of the earth, growing and decaying of plants and wood, or patterns and structures of organic material. In her work she explores these in compositions, colours, forms and feelings.
Naturally the countries in Africa and the Caribbean where she lived, and their vibrant cultures, play an integral part in shaping her ideas for artworks- as do the countless sketches, notes and memories of these places. Often recognizable in her work is the sense of ‘fernweh’ (the longing for faraway places) and solitude.
Her paintings are either in acrylic or in oil on canvas, but she also uses pastels on paper. In addition she has made free-standing objects in paper-maché, and large textile quilts.n.
